Commons in Space
How will shared resources in space, from satellites and space debris to mining of celestial bodies, be managed?
A group of 145 interdisciplinary scholars gathered for a virtual conference Feb. 24-26, 2021 to explore how to solve collective action problems and ensure long-term sustainability of space exploration activities.
Key accomplishments
- Planned and implemented Commons in Space conference. The conference was held February 24-26, with 150 participants. All recordings of talks and panels can be found at the conference website: https://2021space.iasc-commons.org/.
- Add the “Executive summary from initial phase of the Interplanetary Initiative Meta-examination project.

Jessy-Kate focuses on policy and institution design for near term lunar activity. She is also an affiliate at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society and French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), looking at the application of new institutional designs to pressing global challenges here on Earth.
Tanja Masson-Zwaan
President Emerita of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL)
Tanja Masson-Zwaan advises the Dutch Government on space law issues and co-founded the Hague International Space Resources Governance Working Group. She served on various boards, including the European Centre for Space Law, Women in Aerospace-Europe, the Netherlands Space Society and Secure World Foundation.
